Home' INSTYLE Magazine : INSTYLE JANFEB 2015 Contents you'll lose control of your appointment calendar as you can
confirm each booking first.
s Evernote -- virtual notepad that allows you to keep track of all
your stuff, across all of your computers and mobile devices
s Square - mobile payments for small businesses
s Dropbox - save all your documents securely in the cloud, and
access them from anywhere
Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Instead of working
everything yourself, work on recognising others' abilities and
delegating tasks to them. They'll feel empowered when you trust
them with those tasks. Giving people responsibilities equips them to
grow into their positions and excel at what they do. Remember - the
key to delegation is follow up ("what gets noticed gets done").
Some quick delegation and outsource ideas:
s Social Media - there's a good chance one of your staff members
really understands social media. Get them to make regular posts on
your salon's Facebook page by creating a simple weekly plan for
them to follow. Monday: a link to your online booking so clients can
book while you're closed. Throwback Thursday. Friday night funnies.
s Stock count & stocktake - when your sales rep comes to take your
order, let her do the stock count to your pre-agreed levels and
budget. One less job for you, and you can get back to seeing
clients. Review every quarter. Staff can create orders for other
items in the salon (foil etc), too.
s Online marketing - Website and SEO - Get your team to create
the content that your clients would want to see but get specialist
companies to ensure your web content is visible on the web with
s Email marketing - using Mailchimp (Which also integrates with
Timely) makes email marketing so easy.
s Technical or creative training for your team - creative team
leaders or Creative academies
s Paying your monthly accounts and taxes (some smaller firms do
this without the corporate accountant fees)
s Cleaning your workplace - sometimes getting some experts to do
this allows others to focus more on your customers
s Administration rights to your Salon software. Here's where working
in the cloud, like Timely, gives you another advantage. Instead
of downloading all of your information and sending it to your
accountant, lawyer, coach or admin person, you can simply
invite these people onto your Timely platform and they'll have
access to all of your relevant business information.
You have enough on your plate as it is, so start dishing out that work!
BALANCE YOUR TIME
I often hear business owners say, "Oh, Monday is my day off. I'm
doing the accounts and wages, we can always chat then."
No. This does NOT make a day off; you're making this another
work day. Firstly change your language and be real about the
work you take home. It's so important for you to have time off to
recuperate or you'll burn out.
Here's what you can do to make it easier to take time off:
Block out some time every week for your admin jobs. Whatever
you do, don't leave it for "at home" time. These jobs are work
and should be done in business hours (even if done at home). Set
regular and recurring time blocks each week and month for your
admin, and then schedule some time for you and your family, for
going to the gym, or for activities that you want to do. Put it all in
your calendar, and then stick to it!..and stop calling work that you
do from home, your day off!
What will you implement in 2015 to take back your freedom from
"Work on recognising
others' abilities and
delegating tasks to them.
ey'll feel empowered..."
