sun-drenched vista at
Gaia Retreat and Spa
I stumbled across a
quote from Beau Taplin
that encapsulated my feelings exactly.
"One day, whether you are 14, 28 or 65,
you will stumble upon someone who will
start a fire in you that cannot die. However,
the saddest, most awful truth you will ever
come to find -- is they are not always with
whom we spend our lives, but how." A
little deep for the average punter perhaps
but what I realized is, being with yourself
and keeping your own fire alive is the
most important of all. Gaia seems to be
able to go one step beyond the traditional
wellness experience and do that.
ey say that it's not about where you
go but who you are with -- I agree with
this in almost every circumstance but
occasionally you find somewhere with a
sense of magic, a place that calms the soul
and represents the perfect opportunity
to take solitude from an increasingly
tumultuous life. At Gaia, it's the access to
some of the country's best practitioners and
experts and a location that has magic in its
veins that really must be experienced to be
understood. Whatever you want from your
stay Gaia have the best people to look after
you so you can have the best experience and
learn some loving things about yourself that
you may have forgotten or simply lost touch
with on the way.
Spa savvy or not, for those yet to hear or
step foot onto Gaia property for themselves
-- it's important to know that it is not just
a health retreat, it's a tailored spa and
boutique accommodation experience poised
perfectly high in the Byron Bay hinterland
on what is known as Aboriginal Bunjalung
land. e spa experience runs far deeper
than a topical face treatment.
Gaia has become a top-rated destination
for those in the know and by those who
have experienced it for themselves a return
visit as it proves in many cases essential.
Drawing on holistic wisdom, Gaia has
established a reputation for unique
specialized treatments, fitness and health
programs as well as alternative therapies
for men and women.
"One of the biggest myths about Gaia
is that we are a boot camp style retreat,
which we are simply not. We are a pamper
choice retreat where you can check in any
day that suits you and your experience
will be tailored to your individual needs,"
said Managing Director Gregg Cave.
Gregg Cave and his co-owners Olivia

Some people believe in energy channels -- that certain people and places have good and bad
energy. It's hard not to be a believer in good energy after visiting Gaia -- on 'sacred'

of mind left only for the interpretation of the individual. Writes Cameron Pine
