Home' INSTYLE Magazine : INSTYLE SPTOCT 2015 Contents culmination of art and business. Held
at the historic Henry Jones Hotel and
with a visit from the Mayor himself, the
black tie event dare I say welcomed one
of hairdressing's best dressed crowds.
And rightly so, as not only were we
to celebrate accumulated knowledge,
power and importantly people, but
one of the industry's most respected
milestones -- Geoff and Jan Gauvin's 40
"First and foremost I'm a hairdresser
and as a hairdresser I'm very proud of
what I've done," started Jan.
"... and I just love the word
'professional hairdresser,' I just think it's
such an incredible strength. We are the
most amazing group of people. You can
do anything when you're a hairdresser,
you're just so powerful. You're dealing
with people - you're helping them you're
their psychiatrist and their friend - and
what don't we know about our clients?
It's just amazing," said Jan.
"But we have to share this accolade
with our children -- they have taken

ere have been times when we nearly
went bankrupt, and the reason we didn't

Like the sometimes confronting,

Richard Branson said there are three
rules to be successful in business:
ethical, make money and have fun -
three things every Haircare Australia

WHAT THE DELEGATES SAID
The HCA business summit was a huge eye opener for me - It made me see
that the salon is about me, and not about the salon. As a single salon worker,
I learnt that I need to invest in staff and hard workers to make the salon known in
my town, and that I need to get with the times and join the modern techno world
(haha). It also pointed out that the smallest act of kindness can be the biggest
reward as a human and salon. Clients pay money so why not roll out the red carpet
for them every time they enter your salon doors? Salons are nothing without clients
so enjoy them, love them and love your job. I met some of the most beautiful
people that will never leave my mind, and if I didn't own my salon I would love to
work for them." Sam Fuda, FLhair Hair Studio, Orange, NSW.
The summit was a welcome addition to the industry calendar of events.
Rather than another event focused on style and technique, I had an
opportunity to network and discuss business practices and opportunities. I have
already shared the Retailing Rockstars training with my staff and engaged Tiger
Pistol to increase our social media activity. It was a valuable experience, and
I above all loved the setting at the MONA Gallery it was very inspirational,"
Zowie Evans of Zowie Evans salon, Carlton North, Victoria.
We really enjoyed the five industry icons discussing business and education
- there was such diversity in their businesses and careers and it was so
inspiring to hear how they educate as part of the HCA calendar, and also how they
educate and motivate their teams. We particularly loved Belinda Keeley's 'bringing
some life into Chumba' concept and may 'borrow' that idea (thanks Belinda!)."
Brett Albury, Murphy Gozzard, Paddington, NSW.
The Gauvin family and their team were impeccable hosts and for Brett
and I having a brand that is family and community orientated it was really
wonderful to experience that warmth and passion for our industry from Haircare
Au stra lia ," Brett McKinnon, Murphy Gozzard, Paddington NSW.
