brand’s Creative Director since the first quarter of this year
helping to build the profile of the brand both from a stylist’s
perspective as well as in the eyes of the beauty world.
Sachajuan has everything you’d expect from a full salon
range including a prized Ocean Spray and Root Lift but with
the added gusto of not only a Silver Shampoo but a Silver
Conditioner, as part of a range that seems to have just the right
amout of SKU’s for the ultimate salon experience.
“After years of working with leading multi-national brands
I wanted something different that was an editorial based
product. It’s such a beautiful brand – all products are really
light and have a real prestige feel,” Kim said.
“Being a lu xury product we are working on sponsoring
fashion week shows while driving people into the salon with a
salon based brand,” Kim said.
The Volume Powder (spray) is one of Kim’s favourite products,
“It adds loads of texture to the hair while maintaining good
manageability for styling. After the Sun is a moisturizer for the
hair and highly conditions like nothing I’ve ever used before.
The addition of a purple conditioner is something nobody else
has as well,” Kim said.
Kim explains that the beauty of Sachajuan is that the products
can be built up. “You can add a styling product with a spray
and another product and it doesn’t feel like you’ve overloaded
the hair,” he said.
Not long ago Kim styled at Sydney’s Fashion Palette event with
a great turnout of consumers as well as involvement with 12 top
designers from New York.This is all just the begining for what he
hopes will be a continued editorial presence for the brand.
Kim’s latest salon, Kimmy Ralph’s in Darlinghurst is smack
bang in the middle of the artistic-savvy centre that is the
Republic building – where boutique and creativity businesses
flourish, all seemingly similar but yet so different - once you
take a closer look.
Following the trend that boutique is better Kim’s salon was
designed to “Get back to that real personal relationship and
feeling of a complete one-on-one situation with your hairstylist.”
“Our industry now is about creative collaboration and
highly personalized service,” Kim said.
Kim obviously hopes for his salon to grow but not above five
staff – he currently has one guy working with him full time
and is always looking for more senior hairdressers.
“My aim with a smaller, more manageable salon is to focus
on editorial, educating the way I want to and travelling a bit
more too,” said Kim.
Kim believes that hairdressing is a career where you have to
continue to learn – always evolving while trying to “Keep hair
beautiful and keep on growing personally,” he said.
Kim admits to first finding out about Sachajuan when he
was watching a movie. He then did a bit of research and was
immediately impressed by the beauty of the range and the
look it would provide to a salon with a vision like his.
It has been quite a journey since he started haird ressing at 19
and quickly became a fully booked stylist working alongside
Renya Xydis – he’s learnt his lesson both creatively and from
a business standpoint. “I’ve always wanted to be a great
haird resser – not an average haird resser,” Kim said.
And while Sydney can be a very transient city Kim has been
able to offer that ‘full service’ that he says really is all about
talking to your clients and really understanding who they are.
No doubt Sachajuan will flourish in such noble hands.
