Brisbane and was welcomed with open arms by the local hairdressing
community excited to share and show-off their many talents.
With Brisbane hair identities Andre Faiva (Revolution
Hairdressing) and Theo Dimitri (Theo Dimitri Hair) taking on MC
roles across the two days, the centre stage came alive with energetic
and educational performances by the likes of Lorna Evans, Tracey
Hughes, Joey Scandizzo, Frank Apostolopoulos, Dmitri Papas and
Stelios Papas — Lance Liufau, Lachlan Ma’Aramo and the Brisbane
School of Hairdressing rounding out the local contingent.
“Thanks to our exhibitors, media partners and sponsors for
taking a ‘leap of faith’ and believing in our vision to make this an
annual event that Brisbane so richly deserves,” said managing
director, Jason Greenhalgh at the event’s close.
“Thank you also to our visitors for your support of this event.
With your enthusiasm, encouragement and constructive feedback
we will continue to stage an event that is not only relevant to the
industry, but one that showcases the amazing talent and education
this state has to offer.”
And it was this local flavour, armed with community spirit,
which truly made the expo a success, supported by a stellar
extended education program and hair competitions across several
cut and colour categories.
Over the two days there were a myriad of standout education
sessions, centring on business insights, skill and vision.
GETTING THE CREATIVE EDGE
Hosted by Justin Pace, the holy trinity of hair, Dmitri Papas, Fra nk
Apostolopoulos and Joey Scandizzo, led a 90 minute education
session that delivered ‘direct to the salon’ techniques. Motivating
and inspiring the crowd to ‘become the best hairdresser you can be’,
the trio placed high emphasis on the desire for education to build a
professional repertoire, increase saleable skill-set and enhance your
personal brand’s visual aesthetic.
Lance Liufau challenged guests to embrace ‘hipster’ culture
by up skilling in barbering techniques. Taking first place in the
2014 Wahl Hair Battle, Liufau’s ‘quality over quantity’ method was
deconstructed right from the tools he uses to how and when to

A creative force in everything long hair, Lorna Evans was a
crowd favourite thanks to her red carpet and bridal styling
workshops that overflowed with style and elegance. From
stitching a magnificent up-do using giant knitting needles to
intricate (and invisible) pin work, Lorna delivered inspiration,
technique and fun across a number of haute couture evening and
Behind-the-scenes style, substance and a sense of history was
brought to life by Brisbane hairdressing pioneer Stelios Papas and
the Papas and Pace Artistic Team. Brisbane’s hairdressing dynasty
gave the audience a glimpse into the growth and expansion of the
local hairdressing world with models sporting aesthetic styles that
spanned the ages — a proud and high-energy history lesson not to
It wouldn’t be expo without some soul searching and imparting
of industry wisdom and in Brisbane it was Tracey Hughes who
stepped up to share. From her seminar on clever com munication
to light-hearted Q&A with MC Andre Faiva, Tracey discussed
the importance of body language, education, com munication,
entering competitions and above all, the development of your
personal brand as a hairdresser — all impactful to potential profit.
When taking a break from education, guests relaxed in the
Schwarzkopf Professional Champagne Lounge, enjoyed a night
on the town at the official after party at Loft West End and made
themselves beautiful over at the Be(you)tiful Bar with funds raised
going to support charity program Wigs & Wishes run by the local
Friends Are By Your Side team.
Taking in all the Brisbane Hair & Beauty Expo had to offer it was
clear the Queensland hair community revelled in their own show,
proving to the rest of the country how much they have to offer.

Queensland’s hairdressing community descended
on Brisbane for the inaugural Brisbane Hair and
Beauty Expo across Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th
